HISTORY

Heartland Water Resources Council was founded June of 1988 after a number of individuals and organizations realized the tremendous effort and dedication that would be needed to save and restore the Peoria Lakes.

Heartland Water Resources Council focuses on Peoria & Pekin Lakes of the Illinois River and its tributaries from Chillicothe to Pekin, in association with lakefront property owners, individual & corporate advocates, local & State government, and various related organizations, such as:

• Tri-County Regional Planning Commission
• The Nature Conservancy
• Corps of Engineers (Rock Island)
• Illinois State Water Survey
• Illinois Department of Natural Resources
• Community Development & Service Institute
• and, others supporting "Saving the Peoria & Pekin Lakes"
